1 year, 8 months

Time for monthly pictures with my dog. He is my best friend and we do lots of stuff together. We even understand the same words. For example, both Keillor and I get very excited when Dad asks, "Where's Bob?"*

"Cheese!"

And here's me trying to keep every part of my skin off the scratchy grass!

The month in review:

My vocabulary continues to grow, of course. And every day Mom and Dad seem to get better at understanding my words. Current favorites: Please, help, uh-oh and no. "No" has been a favorite for a couple months now. Dad says it's getting a little annoying and I need to work more on "yes." Although both he and Mom think it's cute when Keillor is barking at the door and I say, "no!" while pointing at his bed (that's where he goes when he's in trouble).

I'm supposed to stop using my bottle for milk any time now (before I'm two for sure, says the doctor). So I only get it at meals. The rest of the time is any variety of sippy cups or my new Camelbak water bottle like Mom uses. Although I'm doing my best to boycott most of them in favor of the bottle. Raisins are my new favorite food this past month with the runner-up being the fried chicken Mom shared with me at Culver's!

My physical therapy is coming along well. Jen, my physical therapist, says she likes my progress. Especially my standing and walking (with the help of the ottoman, shopping cart, chair or anything else about my height). I'm not so good at walking while holding Mom or Dad's hands yet. That' s part of my homework for this week.

With each trip to the library we seem to get more and more real books (with paper pages) because I'm getting a lot better at enjoying the story and pictures and not trying to wrinkle or tear the pages! And if you ever walk to the library with me from my house, I can tell you which way to turn at every corner.

*If you didn't already know, Bob is the name of my stroller.

Chalk

I only tried to eat the chalk three times while Dad and I were drawing...

The best part was taking the chalk out of the box, then putting it back in, then taking it out and putting it back in...etc.

Race

The town next to us (Wheat Ridge) hosted a bike race on Sunday. More accurately, they hosted a bunch of bike races in which the racers rode several laps of a short course on the town streets. We went to watch and had a blast.

I was very good at cheering for them just after they had passed. I like to think they still appreciated it.

Soft blankets and in the shade (Dad's requirement).

Trying out the new sunglasses that my friend, Yma, handed down to me.

Paint

Dad came home the other day to find me in the bathtub getting scrubbed down by Lauren.

It was a small price to pay for the fun we had earlier in the day!

Yawn and stretch

A couple of my new talents today!

Ask me to stretch and I'll show you...

And then of course along with stretching comes yawning!

Shopping cart

Dad brought home an entire shopping cart over the weekend! It's perfect to help with my standing and walking.

 Reading the nutrition label.

My reaction when Dad asked me to "give him a smile."

Playground

Dad, Keillor and I got to the library a little too early on Saturday morning so while we waited for it to open, we walked over to the playground for a few minutes. The video clip will give you a good idea of where I'm at with my physical therapy, as well.

Another game

Mom and Dad were whining about not having been to a ball game recently, so I took them last week...

Snacking on peanuts while watching the action.

 Clapping when the crowd cheers.

 Another snack!

Music

Friday video! Here's me keeping myself occupied while Dad was making dinner a few nights ago...

In my music class, the teacher says, "One, two, three!" and then I hit the drum, so that's why Dad is counting for me in this clip:

Water

Dad built us a little something over Memorial Day weekend. And it finally got warm enough for us to try it out last week.

He built it so that we can swap out the bins of water for bins of sand if we're in the mood.

It's also a good way for me to practice my standing!

Swing

I love going to the playground. And I like playing on everything: Slides, the see-saws, and all the swings. I got to try the big kids' swing with Dad over the weekend.

Look at how high I am!

Not so bad as long as it's not moving...

Ummm, Dad? You should probably put down the camera because
I'm not sure how long I can hold on here!
