4 years, 8 months & 2 years, 5 months
Monthly picture time!
After an action packed trip to New Jersey last month, this month has been a little more routine. We were both in swim lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the past four weeks. Dad and John are in the main part of the pool and I'm in my class of about 5 kids over in one corner. Something clicked last week during class and all of a sudden I claim to love swimming and love getting my face in the water (that has not always been the case). Dad credits the new teacher this session (Hannah) and we learned on Tuesday that she'll be my teacher when classes start up again in mid-July!
John has started to talk quite a bit more just in the last couple weeks. He's stringing together full sentences and we can even understand him most of the time. He loves to be outside and to go on adventures. If Dad starts a question with, "Who wants to go..." John's hand shoots up and he yells "me!" before he even hears the offer.
I've been enjoying staying at home when Dad and John head out. I usually use that time to convince Mom to do all sorts of art projects with me. My time for adventures are when John is napping on the weekends. That's when I help Mom or Dad with the grocery shopping and when Dad and I like to make our own trips to the central library or the brewery for games.
We have another exciting adventure planned this weekend: Road trip to Montana for the 4th of July! It'll be our longest car trip ever and we are super excited. Dad keeps saying that the excitement will probably wear off by the Wyoming border.
Questions for Tess:
1. What concert would you like to see? Wailin Jennys
2. Favorite bird: Blue Heron
3. The most fun thing to do at swim lessons: Jump off the wall (editor's note: She means pushing off from the wall)
4. What are you excited to do in Montana? Play
5. Favorite Minnesota Twin: Daaaad...it's always Joe Mauer!
6. What are you excited to do during the long car trip? Coloring!
7. What would you like to be when you grow up? Doctor first and then I'm going to drive a garbage truck
For John:
1. Coolest animal you've seen recently: Bear
2. Where did you see the bear? ROAR!
3. Favorite dessert: Shoulder shrug then replied dessert
4. What are you excited to do during the long car trip? Montana! Colorado!
5. Favorite book(s): Go Dog Go and Peppa
6. What do you want to be when you grow up? Garbage truck with Tess

ODB
The whole family got to see the Okee Dokee Brothers this past Saturday!
The concert was at Four Mile Historic Park, so we got to explore the park and an instrument petting zoo before the actual concert. Actually, the more accurate description would be that Dad and John explored all the fun stuff while I sat on the blanket with Mom.

Staring contest between boy and rabbit.
Joe and Justin along with Jillian on fiddle.
(No upright bass like the last time we saw them).

Pride
The parade last weekend was amazing! We got there at 9:30 and found a perfect shady location. It was still going strong when we left more than two hours later. Can't wait for next year!

Hair
On the Saturday before Father's Day, Dad and I went over to the library for a Dad/Daughter hair class. The instructor focused on the basics, but we still learned a few new things like the braided bun (see below). We also got a bunch of free stuff: new detangler brush (which is amazing), detangler spray, some sort of styling cream, a bunch of hair ties, some bobby pins, etc.

More fire trucks
John shared his fire truck sounds on Monday's post and this past Thursday we were able to visit a real fire truck at school! Regular readers may recall that this is an annual event, but this is the first year John can really appreciate it. There was also a police car, a sniffer dog, and lots of other safety-related exhibits.
Back seat in the fire truck.
Riding backwards in the fire truck.
Dad asked that this be the only time we ever get to sit in the back of a police car.

DT
We had a chance to head over to the Children's Museum last weekend to see Daniel Tiger at their Be My Neighbor Day event. The crowds were huge and luckily both John and I were fine looking at Daniel and didn't need to wait in line to actually meet him!

Golf
A little Thursday evening entertainment from last week! The city golf course near our house features free a 5-hole kids course and the golf shop even has a few shorter clubs for us to borrow.
Our round was cut short due to the inability to share the few clubs we had as a group, but we look forward to trying it again soon!
